The police said seventeen workers of a Pune food processing unit in the Yavat area of Pune district were hospitalised following an ammonia gas leak on Wednesday, reported. Officials reported that the incident took place on Tuesday morning at a ready-to-eat food processing unit in Pune. Among the hospitalized individuals, a woman is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for enhanced care and monitoring.
A gas leak occurred on Wednesday morning at a food processing unit in Bhandgaon near Yavat, Pune, which specializes in manufacturing ready-to-eat food and requires temperatures below 18 degrees Celsius maintained by ammonia, according to source. Senior Police Inspector Narayan Deshmukh reported that during the incident, 25 people, primarily women, were working in the affected section. Seventeen workers were impacted by the leak, with one woman, who was closest to the source, being the most affected. Following the leak, the main regulator was shut off, and the workers were rushed to the hospital with symptoms of breathlessness and discomfort. Sixteen workers are stable, while the woman who was directly exposed to the gas is in the ICU under observation but in stable condition and out of danger. A team from the Pune Rural Police visited the factory to investigate the leak, which was swiftly controlled by the factory's internal safety system.
Separately, two people were injured when a pickup truck lost control and crashed over a divider near the old RTO in Pimpri Chinchwad, Pune district, around 10:45 pm on Wednesday. The injured were taken to the hospital for treatment, and there were six people in the truck at the time of the accident.
